Advanced Affiliate Marketing Tips to Make You More Income
I’m in the process of creating my own course on affiliate marketing, so all of these things are fresh on my mind as I write the modules, record, and distill everything I know about affiliate marketing and how I have made hundreds of thousands on affiliate marketing (while also being a service provider and having other offers) into a course. Let’s walk through the three tips I think make affiliate marketers more income!
Tip One: Use a Link Shortener
As you know, when you sign up for an affiliate program, the brand gives you a tracking link. Most of the time, these links are long, messy, and easy to lose. A link shortener cleans them up and makes them easier to use.
Why is this important? When the link is short and simple, you’re more likely to remember it and use it.
If someone asks me about a product I mentioned when I’m out and about, especially if I’m with my kids, I don’t have time to find a complicated link. If I don’t have a shortened version saved somewhere, I’ll probably just tell them the name of the product and lose out on the commission.
Another reason I love link shorteners is that they’re easy to change. Sometimes, an affiliate program will change your tracking link and send you a new messy link. Without a link shortener, you have to go back through all your blogs and everywhere you’ve used that link and change it. If you don’t have a system that keeps where you’ve used your affiliate links organized, this can be a disaster.
With a link shortener, all you have to do is change what the shortened link redirects to. Instead of chasing down everywhere you put that link, this is one step that takes less than two minutes.
Tip Two: Use Your Email List Welcome Sequence to Highlight Your Best Affiliate Links
When someone first subscribes to your email list, they want to hear from you. They’ve said, “Please show up in my inbox, tell me your story, tell me what to do, and tell me your favorite things.”
I highly recommend taking advantage of this time and adding affiliate links to your welcome email to make more money. You have a unique opportunity to get your favorite products in front of them.
If you don’t have a welcome sequence for your business, I encourage you to set one up. If you do have one, go back through it and ask yourself if you’ve optimized your affiliate marketing opportunities. Where could you add a link to a helpful product or service that aligns with your audience?
Tip Three: Don’t Link Away From Your Website Unless It’s an Affiliate Link
This is a rule of thumb I like to follow: I don’t link to anything away from my website unless it’s an affiliate link. The only place I want to send people is to other pages of my website or to my affiliate links.
There may be exceptions to this rule, but in general, we never want to send traffic away. You’ve worked way too hard to get people to your website and capture their attention. You don’t want them to leave, and if they do, you want to make money on it.
This rule can unlock ideas and potential that you didn’t realize existed before. A great example is a client I recently worked with. At the bottom of her website, she linked to the place where she purchased her website’s template. We went to the brand and realized they had an affiliate program, so she signed up and quickly replaced that link with an affiliate link.
Trust me, there are more opportunities to add affiliate links to your website than you realize. Take some time to go through your site and discover them all. When you use this rule, you’ll run all of your links through the filter of, “Could this be an affiliate link?” You’ll be amazed at how much more money you can make when you do this.
