Last week, I held my first workshop at the Elkridge Furnace Inn with my dear friend Hailey from Hailey Grace Events. Months ago, we sat down (in chipotle- because who says you can’t have a business meeting in chipotle?) and decided the hold a workshop for photographers all about styled shoots. We wanted a platform to not only share our secrets, tips, and lessons from the past few years of working styled shoots together, but also a chance to meet creatives and build real relationships. The workshop hit on all those things.
We started off with the business benefits of styled shoots and the WHY behind doing them and then moved into “how to plan a styled shoot.” We threw a lot of information at the attendees in just a few hours but they kept up with questions the whole time and took notes in their workbooks for future reflection. We also planned an actual styled shoot for hands-on learning which took place after the teaching portion of the workshop. Hailey styled the most incredible all-white wedding table scape. She knows her stuff you guys!! It was so cool seeing everyone get creative with how they styled the details and how each girl brought her own artistic eye.
I have to say I could not have pulled this off without Hailey. She was my sanity and sounding board throughout the planning process and she put up with all those weird and overly ambitious ideas I get way too often. She gave a great talk, found us the most incredible vendors to work with, and kept me smiling when I wanted to give up. I’m so blessed I had her help!
This workshop was such an incredible growing experience for me. I learned a lot and have so many ideas for future workshops. The process of planning and teaching a workshop was not easy but I can say it was completely worth it.
Thank you Elkridge Furnace Inn for hosting us, keeping us caffeinated and letting us rearrange your furniture! 🙂
