Why Does Video Do So Well Online?

I’ve been leveraging video content in my business for over four years! My Youtube channel has grown to over 50k subscribers with over 2.5 million views across my channel. That’s just on Youtube, but the reach that video has is incredible. So why does video do so well online?

Video Uses More Dimensions of Our Senses

As humans, we’re constantly assessing someone’s face when they talk—video allows us to see their face and hear their tone. The combinational use of these senses is what makes video so engaging. Nothing will grow your relationships and build that trust with your likes like video does.

Video Tends to be Evergreen.

Evergreen content essentially means that something can still be relevant beyond the season that you’re in or the day that it was published. When creating video content, you’re likely creating something that makes sense to watch at any given time.

The shelf life of any piece of content is so important to consider as a business owner when it comes to the content that you’re creating. For example, take a look at some of the most popular platforms:

  • Tweets – seconds/minutes
  • FB Posts – 1-2 days
  • IG/Reels – 1-3 days
  • YouTube – years

Evergreen content can continue to drive traffic to your services over long periods of time, which is why evergreen content should be hosted on a searchable platform like YouTube or your website (or both). While you can upload and host your video content on Youtube to reap the benefits of search, you should also be hosting it on your own website or blog to position it to be search engine friendly and benefit your website.

Back in episode 3, I dive more into how you can use Youtube for your business, so if this is a topic you’re interested in learning more about, you can check that out here!

Three Tips for Creating Video in Your Business as a Busy Entrepreneur

As an entrepreneur, you’re always busy and most likely overwhelmed with everything you have to do in your business, but today I want to highlight three tips that will help you create video in your business as a busy entrepreneur.

1. Preplan and now where you’ll use the video before you hit record.

During the planning phase of your video content, you’ll need to consider the following:

  • Who is the video for?
  • Where is it going on the internet?
  • What do you want your video to do for you in your business?

Knowing these pieces will help you plan for more valuable, content while making the creation process so much simpler!

2. Give your video a home somewhere search based.

As I mentioned before, I think it’s important to have your video live on your website, but before you get it there, you need to consider where you’re going to host it. Personally, I love Youtube, because I can easily embed it onto my website, plus I get the added benefit of search engine optimization with Youtube indexing my videos.

The benefits that search engine optimization within Youtube offers is something that other social media platforms lack. The components that go into search engine optimization can also be considered in your planning phase as you consider user behavior and what people may be searching for.

3. Repurpose, repurpose, repurpose.

When you’re creating a Youtube video, you can easily create 10 more pieces of content in your business. This could be through sharing clips or snippets to Instagram (stories, reels, posts) and Facebook (teasers as video), make graphics and videos clips for Pinterest, add screenshots to your newsletter, and so much more!

Let’s think about how we can maximize the reach and visibility by using your business assets. Write out every single platform or channel you have in your business and the ways in which you can repurpose content to those.
