In this post, we are talking all about Instagram! Not just about growth on the platform in general, but really how to use Instagram as a photographer to get clients that will actually pay you and grow your business.
In the video below, I give you my four tips on how to find photography clients on Instagram and convert them into paying customers. Let’s dive in!
How to Find Photography Clients on Instagram
1. Build Trust
This is the most important aspect when it comes to your customers, followers, business relationships, all of it! Building trust is absolutely crucial to making money. People are not going to make a purchase with a company or a business owner unless they trust them. Building that trust is super foundational but SO essential. Trust and connecting with your audience needs to be your #1 goal!
To actually build that trust, be consistent in what you post. Frequency of posting, content that you are posting, your captions, and the way you’re authentically showing up all fall in this category. As you consistently post work to Instagram, make sure that you’re showing who you are and what you do so your audience knows what to expect!
It is also essential that your work is consistent as well. Being inconsistent will confuse your potential client because they won’t know exactly what you do and how you can serve them.
When people begin to engage with you, engage back! Listen to them, comment back, and respond to your DMs. Start thinking about how you can create a dialogue and build trust with the people you have following you.
2. Share the Right Content
Posting the RIGHT content is so important to serve your ideal client. It helps to niche down here so that you are posting things that your ideal client relates to and is interested in. Curating content for your ideal client will help you create clear messaging as well. When you’re trying to serve everyone, your messaging will be all over the place. On the other hand, when you focus on your ideal client, you are able to be super clear.
Some questions to ask yourself when creating content: “What kind of things would my ideal client want to learn about?”, “What problems is she possibly facing?”, “What kind of concerns does she have about photography?”. You can utilize this information in so many ways on Instagram, through posts, stories, and even IG lives, but it will help so much to have your ideal client in mind!
3. Have a Clear Offer
You want to make it abundantly clear who you are, what you do, and where you do it: Name, Type of Photography, and Location. It is so important to utilize both the bio and links sections on your Instagram to make it clear to your potential clients – and not leave it up to their imaginations! Being clear here is KEY.
4. Make It Easy to Contact You
This may be obvious, but this tip is missed by so many people on Instagram. Having your contact information added to your bio or through the link gives people a way to reach out to you. This needs to be abundantly simple and in as few clicks as possible! If someone is interested. in booking you for a session or a wedding, they need to have a way to get ahold of you!
Another tip here is adding your email address to your website so that potential clients don’t have to fill out your contact form to reach out to you, if they just want to send you a quick email. You don’t want to miss out on a possible sale because they couldn’t find your information. Making it super easy for that person to go from a follower to a client is important and getting in contact with you is a huge part of it!
