5 Marketing Strategies that are Working for Photographers in 2024
With so many option for marketing in 2024, I want to share the five strategies that I see working for my clients in 2024!
1. Building Referral and Loyalty Programs
Getting a word-of-mouth referral is such a powerful tools for your business. I don’t think there is anything else that speaks to the level of trust and credibility that a referral does. What can we do to make sure that is happening?
By incentivizing and gamifying referrals, you’re encouraging people to share about you in a way that rewards them.
Additionally, when you can build loyalty with your existing clients to keep coming back to you for more, you’re eliminating the need to market to new customers. Build in bonuses and prizes for loyal customers.
Note: Your client experience has to be top notch for either of these to work! I have a free training, “The 3 Secrets to a Client Experience that Will Keep You Booked Solid.”
2. Focusing on Organic Traffic with SEO
Search engine optimization has been a secret weapon in my business this year, along with many of my clients! From getting business keywords dialed in, creating content around long-tail keywords, and optimizing every part of their website, SEO is the priority.
If you can have Google sharing your work and your expertise with people when they’re searching for your type of business, you can break the SEO code. This will put your hat in the ring to show up on page one of Google.
If you don’t want to pay for advertising and leads, SEO is a tried and true method when you’re doing it correctly.
3. Email Marketing
Another type of marketing that is working really well for photographers is email marketing. When you can show up directly in someone’s inbox, share your message, and even give them special offerings or first dibs on your sessions, you’ll see conversation far better than what you can do in double or triple the work on Instagram.

If you’re just getting started with email, I highly recommend Flodesk for photographers! You can snag 50% off at joymichelle.co/flodesk. If you’re ready for something a step above that, you should check out Kajabi (what I use in my business).
4. Leveraging a Google Business Profile
From optimizations in your search rankings to potential inquiries in your business, your Google Business profile plays a vital role in how you could potentially rank on Google. I recently shared a full episode on three ways you can improve your Google Business Profile!

5. Instagram Reels
I hear so many different opinions on whether or not Reels are working, but when I look at what is working for my own clients and the people who are putting in the effort, they are seeing results! If you’re going to be creating social media content, you should be investing in Reels. They offer the reach most of us are looking for on Instagram.
