Finding Inspiration

Inspiration is fickle and often doesn’t care about your deadline, content plan, or yearly revenue goal. so don’t wait for her to show up.

One thing to keep in mind is that inspiration is fickle—it doesn’t revolve around your deadlines or plans. As a mom and business owner, I quickly learned the importance of preparing for those inevitable periods of uninspiration. It’s a vital practice to anticipate and plan for such times, rather than waiting for inspiration to strike spontaneously.

1. Creating a Systematic Business Hub

A crucial strategy that has helped me immensely is setting up a business hub—a central place where all my tasks and projects are organized. I use Notion to handle all my daily, weekly, and long-term business plans. This setup removes the need to constantly think about what needs to be done, allowing me to stay on track even when my creativity is at a low. If you don’t have a business hub yet, finding a platform that suits your needs can be a game-changer.

2. Keeping Your Mission Front and Center

Whether it sounds cheesy or not, having your mission statement visible can make a difference. Reminding yourself of why you started and the impact your work has can reignite your motivation. Consider recording your mission statement so you can listen to it whenever you need a boost, keeping you aligned with your core purpose.

3. Know Your Short List of Activities that Lead to Income

Knowing which activities drive income in your business is crucial, especially when energy levels are low. Focus on action items that result in client inquiries or sales, and save the non-essential tasks for another time. This kind of focus helps you maintain clarity and effectiveness, even when time and energy are limited.

4. Embracing Uninspired Workdays

It’s essential to normalize working when uninspired. The business doesn’t have feelings and won’t differentiate between work done in flow and tasks completed out of necessity. Becoming adept at working without the “perfect” setup means accepting that some days you are only at 70%, but that’s okay.

5. Pay Attention to Yourself & Know What You Need

When kids are sick or we feel off, it’s important to know yourself and learn how to coach yourself with what you need. Maybe that’s just focusing on your daily tasks and wrapping up after. The more you pay attention to yourself, the better you’ll learn how you work best in these times of feeling uninspired.

Time to Get to Work…

Now when you actually sit down to work, there are a few things you can do to be productive.

Prioritizing on Client Work

When energy is scarce, prioritize taking care of your current clients

The Power of Visibility

Ensuring you stay visible by maintaining strong relationships with your existing clients often leads to repeat business and referrals. Visibility, even through low-lift tasks, keeps you on the radar of potential clients.

Make Work Enjoyable: Gamify or Reward Yourself

Turning work into a game or creating rewards for task completion can bring a sense of accomplishment and motivation. Whether it’s a simple treat or time for personal indulgence, use incentives to push through uninspired moments.

Remember that perfection is an enemy of productivity. Being okay with the ‘good enough’ days allows for consistent progress. By applying these strategies, you can continue to thrive even when feeling tired and uninspired.
