5 Mistakes in Balancing Business & Family

Being a mom and running a business isn’t about balance—it’s about rhythm. The sooner we stop trying to “do it all” perfectly, the sooner we can start making real progress in both roles.

These five mistakes might be silently holding you back, not because you’re doing anything wrong, but because you haven’t been given the tools to navigate both worlds with flexibility and intention.

Let’s change that.

Mistake #1: Being too rigid in your plans and failing to adapt

I love a good plan. I crave structure. But when your schedule is built around kids, whether it’s a 4-month-old baby or school-aged kids, you know that plans don’t always stick.

Trying to force a rigid schedule in a life that changes daily is a recipe for frustration. Instead of scrapping the plan entirely, I recommend building in flexibility.

Think: buffer time between calls, backup “Plan B” tasks you can do in shorter windows, and systems that flow with your season—not against it.

Mistake #2: Not delegating tasks or asking for help

As ambitious women, we pride ourselves on being capable., but capable doesn’t mean you should do it all.

Whether it’s household chores, childcare, or business admin tasks, there are things that someone else can do (often better and faster). Keep in mind, delegating is not giving up, it’s leading wisely.

Plus, if you’re not asking for help at home? That’s a conversation worth having. Distribution of household responsibilities isn’t about fairness, it’s about sustainability.

Mistake #3: Going wide instead of deep

One of the biggest hurdles for entrepreneurs to overcome is saying yes to everything. You’re trying to do everything at once, launch at the same time, and grow on every platforms simultaneously.

Then you wonder why nothing’s gaining traction. Instead, ask: where can I go deep? What if I focused on one offer, one platform, one clear message and gave it the time and energy it deserves?

Depth creates clarity. Clarity creates progress.

Mistake #4: Following the wrong people online

Social media can be inspiring or it can be quietly crushing your confidence. If you’re constantly consuming content from people in a different season (hello, child-free CEOs or women with full-time help), it’s no wonder you’re feeling behind.

Mute. Unfollow. Curate.

Protect your peace and your focus by choosing who gets to speak into your world. Follow aligned voices—especially other moms building businesses in a way that reflects the life you want.

Mistake #5: Not having clear goals for both personal and professional life

You probably know your business revenue goal for next year, but what about your health, marriage, and motherhood?

When you only set goals for your business, your personal life tends to run on fumes. That’s when resentment builds, exhaustion creeps in, and everything starts to feel “off.”

Set goals for your whole life, not just the business part. That’s what it means to build a truly aligned “call to both” life.
